Tallinn Treff

May 8-11, 2025

The international visual theatre festival Tallinn Treff dates back to 2007. The festival has grown into a meeting place of contemporary puppet, object, material, physical and multimedia theatre, where we look for an inspiring dialogue between content and form, tradition and innovation.

The festival taking place in the coming spring will be the 14th in a row. This time, the programme is divided into indoor and outdoor programmes and follows the principle ‘less is more’.

We are excited to introduce, for the first time in the festival history, the special programme of caravan theatres. It is a form of summer theatre, more widespread in other parts of the world, in which performances take place in caravans or minibuses rebuilt into theatre halls. Such a format is quite unique – depending on the production, the hall can accommodate three to fifteen viewers, and the duration of a performance is seven to twenty minutes, making it possible to give several performances within a few hours. The spectrum of productions is wide, offering something for children, youth as well as adults. And most importantly – concentrated in these minutes is the essence of boundless imagination that characterises visual theatre. In addition to the Estonian Theatre for Young Audiences’ new caravan theatre, our colleagues from Finland, Germany and France are also bringing their theatre halls on wheels to Tallinn.

The productions in this year’s indoor programme are also characterised by small casts and boundless imagination. Visual theatre is by nature something that fires and expands the imagination; with roots firmly set in puppet and object theatre, it simultaneously searches for a commonality with modern technological possibilities.

We are, as always, proud to welcome to the festival the most distinctive visual theatre productions of the past few years from across Europe (including Finland, Germany, France, Belgium, and Norway), but also from Canada.

Looking forward to meetings of visual theatre,

Leino Rei
Artistic Director of the Festival
