This is a story about a poor carpenter called Gepetto who carves himself a wooden son – Pinocchio. Magically, the puppet comes to life, turning out to be an adventurous and curious character whose greatest wish is to become a real boy. When Pinocchio meets a Fairy who promises to fulfil his wish if he can learn to be honest, caring and brave, the wooden boy embarks on an adventure full of twists and colourful characters, humour, desire for freedom and boundless playfulness, but also temptations, unexpected events and wisdom of the heart to handle them.

Director Mirko Rajas:

“The story is full of playfulness, unexpected turns and good humour that helps to discuss even more complicated topics with lightness and a joy of life. Pinocchio loses and then finds himself – over and over again – being now a clown, then a martyr, then simply a child. His journey is not straightforward, but every stumble comes with an opportunity to grow. Through various twists and turns, Pinocchio finally learns to take responsibility and to love, and realises that becoming human is a never-ending process – complicated, funny, painful and beautiful all at the same time.”

Characteristically to visual theatre, the language of form in Pinocchio is rich, combining lively dialogue, puppets, masks, movement, dance and song. With vivid visual imagery, fast-paced scenes and deep but playful content that appeal to children and adults alike, the production does not offer ready answers but invites the viewer to think and feel along, each along their own path
